Intelli- What?

Did you know there's a product on the market that can predict the gender of a baby at as early as 10 weeks? It's called IntelliGender, and you can find it in most major stores near the pregnancy tests. The company's website states that it is "a fun pre-birth experience for moms who can't wait to know!" That would be me. Though I think they should change it to "a confusing pre-birth experience for moms who are neurotic". The test works like this: 1. Collect first morning urine in the cup provided (easy enough). 2. Use the plastic syringe to collect 20ml of urine (kind of gross). 3. Insert into exposed hole on top of test vessel (this contains the "magic" sand-like substance that reacts with the urine). 4. Replace sticky cover over top of vessel and swirl test rapidly for 10 seconds. DO NOT SHAKE! (this is where I got confused and just sort of sloshed it around for a few seconds). After 10 minutes, the test is ready to read. The color of the urine determines the sex. A murky, greenish color indicates a boy, while an orange color means girl. There's a boy and girl label on both sides that allows you to match the results. Before I reveal my results, let me just say that from the moment I discovered I was pregnant, I have felt that it is a girl. So I figured that this test could confirm that for me much earlier than the ultrasound. Here's the results of my test:

Clearly mine would indicate that it is a boy. Now of course I will be excited no matter what we're having, but I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed when I first saw the results. However, I still feel in my heart that it is a girl. So I'm chalking this up to human error and the fact that this test is probably a sham. Now I'm out $30 and a little ticked off. But I suppose only time will tell if IntelliGender was indeed mistaken, or if my maternal instinct is faulty. Lesson learned? Better to wait it out and leave it to the professionals ;).

  1. I read about this in a book at my OB's office. I was wondering if it really worked. I am like you, most women want a girl and most men want a boy. I am not sure what my first child was but my second one was a boy and so I was a little upset but he was healthy and that is all that mattered. THen I got pregnant again, I was like this is a girl because all of my symptoms were different. I didn't gain as much weight, wasn't sick, wasn't pregnant all over my body, just in my tummy this time lol but after ultrasound it was another boy. I cried and now I feel bad and sorry about that because there are so many women out there that want a baby so bad and here I am having healthy babies but crying because it was another boy. After my doctor walked in, you would know I cried more because he babies me, He asked how was it going and I started. He asked was I okay and I said yeah and told him that I just wanted a girl so bad but then I did tell him that I thanked God because my baby was healthy. He said you are so right. THere are many women that come in and out of here every single day that can't get pregnant or either have something wrong with their babies. So that just made me feel that much smaller but it was what I needed to hear. I told him that I just wanted to be through having kids and he said well baby you can be and I told him that I wanted a girl though. He just laughed and hugged me. Do I still want a girl, YES!!! but would I take anything for my boy, NO WAY!!! They are mama's babies. Little boys love their mommy!!! There are some days that I feel like I am going to go crazy but then I just read some of the blogs that I follow on here and then I just say Thank you God for another day with my boys:) Hope you get what you want. Maybe its a GIRL!!!!

  2. Have you checked any of the old wives tales? I loved going through those with my son...Does this pregnancy feel different than with Ethan? Good luck!

  3. I have to be honest, and tell you that I have not been following this blog nearly as much as I would like to; however, I just had to let you know that I am absolutely thrilled for you! Congratulations! You and your hubby deserve all the joy in the world! <3

  4. Well I will tell you that I did this test when I was pregnant and I got the same results as you and Macie was all girl :). Also, 2 ladies I work with did the test and we all had the same experience. So if that has any truth to it than it will be a girl. I nicknamed this test the "opposite test" because whatever it says you are having you will have the opposite of (or so I believe). Good luck! Can't wait to hear what you are having :)
